I am deeply passionate about research, particularly in research methodology. My diverse skill set enables me to develop effective and rigorous approaches to addressing research questions.”
Data Analysis
In terms of software proficiency, I am an advanced user of Stata and Excel and have experience using SAS, MPlus, and SPSS. My analytical skill set enables me to conduct rigorous statistical analyses, ensuring robust and reliable research findings.
Statistical Modeling Proficiency
- Basic & Advanced Regression Analysis
- Longitudinal Data Analysis
- Structural Equation Models
- Multilevel Models (aka hierarchical linear models, mixed effects models)
- Complier Average Causal Effect (CACE) Models
- Evaluation of randomized controlled Trials
Data Curation Skills
- Data Cleaning – review for and fix errors, rename question labels and response options, and recode response options
- Data Integration – merging data from multiple sources
- Data Transformation – reshaping data from wide to long and vice versa, consolidating response options, and converting variables from string/text to numeric
Survey Design
During my time as a postdoctoral research fellow at the MAP Academy, I guided clients in designing effective questionnaires by ensuring response options aligned with question stems, selecting optimal response formats, mitigating context effects, detecting careless responders, and addressing respondent fatigue.
I also served as a subject matter expert in Qualtrics, specializing in survey creation, design review, and optimization. My expertise included:
- Implementing fraud detection mechanisms within the survey flow to identify and remove potential bots or duplicate respondents, minimizing the need for extensive data cleaning.
- Designing research consent forms that automatically email a copy of the completed form to both participants and the Principal Investigator.
- Enhancing data quality through question validation options.
- Customizing survey questions dynamically using piped text based on prior responses.
- Improving respondent usability by applying JavaScript to alternate shading in matrix-style questions.
- Optimizing data management by updating variable names, question and value labels, and recoding data values to streamline data recording and reduce post-survey cleaning efforts.
- Using hidden questions to categorize respondents based on specific responses and dynamically tailoring follow-up questions accordingly.
Research Administration
I have experience across the full spectrum of the research lifecycle. At Iowa State University, I worked as a Pre-Award Administrator in the Office of Sponsored Programs, as an accountant and then manager of Sponsored Programs Accounting, and lastly as a Project Manager for the Grants Hub, a new initiative by the Vice President for Research. In addition, I was certified as a Research Administrator (CRA) from 2012-2017.
At the University of Nebraska, I was a Senior Project Director for the Interpersonal Violence Research Lab where I oversaw project execution, addressed challenges with project delivery, and ensured project deliverables were met.
